Theatre and Pedagogy of the Oppressed

Pedagogist Paulo Freire's and  Director Augusto Boal's legacies to address pedagogical and aesthetical projects.

Alessandro Tolomelli PhD - Department of Education "Giovanni Maria Bertin", University of Bologna- is undertaking a  scientific collaboration with Alessandra Vannucci PhD – Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio De Janeiro (PUC) and Universidade Federal Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) - about research and training on Theatre and Pedagogy of the Oppressed.

Pedagogist Paulo Freire and Director Augusto Boal  worked together to develop educational and artistic methods to empower oppressed communities and people during the Brasilian dictatorship.
Their methods – Pedagogy of the Oppressed and Theatre of the Oppressed – are known all over the world, where researchers and communities use these legacies to address pedagogical and aesthetical projects.

The Department of Education has signed an agreement both with the "Centre of Theatre of the Oppressed"- Rio de Janeiro (founded by Augusto Boal) and with PUC Rio de Janeiro in March 2013 "in order to promote cooperation in the fields of research and teaching, and to encourage educational, cultural and artistic projects of mutual interest".
