Rural Society

Study of rural society, cultures and traditions. Socio-economic impact of trades and bio-energetic productions.

 Scientific collaboration between Prof. Roberto Fanfani, Department of Statistical Sciences  at University of Bologna and Prof. John Wilkinson, Department of Development, Agriculture and Society, at Universidade Federal Rural de Rio de Janeiro, and  A Centro de pesquisa do desenvolvimento agrario (CPDA). Prof Wilkinson is also head of National Council of Research in "Markets, Networks and Values".

  •  Comparison of Italia, EU and Brazilian policies for rural development, agri-food sector, bio-energies
  • Market and trade analysis between Italy and Brazil in order to understand and  strengthen Italian agri-food SMEs and cluster in the Brazilian markets
  • Socio-economic impact of trades and bio-energetic productions

Forthcoming exchange visit and events

  • New exchange visits of Brazilian PhD student and Post-doctoral will be also planned for the next years in order to proceed with the collaboration within the two Departments.
  • Scientific and Research collaboration with the SO.B.E.R Brasilian Society of Rural Economics and Sociology. This research Association includes about 1000 researchers on sociology and rural economy
  • Recent exchange visits
    September 2012 until July 2013. Dr. Valdemar João Wesz Junior PhD student in Development, Agriculture and Society at the  Rural Federal University of Rio de Janeiro is spending  a year of study at the PhD in Agri-food Economics and Statistics thanks to a Faperj grant (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro) . Dr. Wesz research topics are:
  • Economic Analysis of agri-food sector and the agri-food districts
  • Economics and the efficiency of the food industries to the structural changes along the food chain
  • Studies on the food chain and enterprise networks
  • Analysis and evaluation of the policies of the agri-food sector in Brazil
  • Trends analysis of soy production in Brazil
  • From September 2008 to June 2009. Dott.ssa Anna Lopane has made Overseas at UFRJ under the supervision of prof. Wilkinson in order to make on field research for her final thesis made with prof. Fanfani. The topic was about Chinese investments in the Brazilian agri-food sector.  At the moment, Dott. Anna Lopane is a PhD student with prof. Wilkinson
