Fluid mechanics, porous media and nanofluids
Numerical solutions for internal flows and stability problems in Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids, in nanofluids, and in saturated porous media.
A recent collaboration project with a research group at Universidade Federal Fluminense ( Prof. Leandro Alcoforado Sphaier, and Prof. Leonardo Santos de Brito Alves) and Prof. Antonio Barletta Department of Industrial Engineering has recently started. The collaboration focuses on the development of new accurate numerical methods for the study of internal flows, and for the stability analysis of clear fluids, nanofluids and saturated porous media.
One of the main topics of the collaboration is the thermoconvective instability in porous media saturated either by a Newtonian or by a non-Newtonian fluid. This research topic will be possibly extended in the future also to fluids clear of solid material, as well as to double-diffusion phenomena as, for instance, those arising when simultaneous temperature and salinity gradients are present in a fluid.
Another important topic is the prediction of the flow and heat transfer behaviour in the internal flows of nanofluids. A special attention is devoted to the analysis of the hydrodynamic and thermal development regions, especially when mixing between a nanofluid and the corresponding base fluid occurs.
Prof. Eugenia Rossi di Schio research topics are: fluid dynamics and heat transfer solutions, by using analytical and numerical methods, for clear fluids and fluid saturated porous media. Stability analyses of solutions. Analysis of the effect of viscous dissipation, of local thermal non-equilibrium models, of spatially periodic boundary conditions.
