The Integrated Production Agricultural System (IPAS) is the Food Quality Assurance System (FQAS) in Brazil. Because of its focus on the product instead of the farm certification, it causes high cost of operation and an obstacle to adoption, especially in policulture farms.
Some FQAS from EU currently operate in Brazil, such as GlobalGAP, with advantage of IPAS by reputation in the world agrifood’s market. To reach that, the farmers need to use more than one protocol, in parallel, because there is no equivalence between them. Therefore, the Government's effort in spreading the IPAS is ineffective.
So, the main objective is comparing both protocols IPAS vs. GlobalGAP, and after their equivalence verifying their influence within the grains production chain (rice or common beans). The study aims evaluating the ability of these kind of voluntary standards related to a sustainable production system (as integrated production system), to answer to the needs expressed by the agrifood retail sector towards their suppliers, i.e., the farmers, and on the other hand, to verify the constraints of adopting the Integrated Production system by farmers, as a sustainable production system.
Moreover, from the consumer outlook, to verify their perception concerning a sustainable distinctive signal, such as "Brasil Certificado" label, and their willingness-to-pay a premium for this kind of certified product.
