Education and Academic Positions
Lucia Corrain took her degree (“cum laude”) in DAMS at the
University of Bologna, and her Phd in Art History with Omar
Calabrese and Umberto Eco.
She carried on her research tanks to a post-doctoral fellowship,
and became a permanent researcher at the University of Bologna in
1998.
In 2003 she became an associate professor at the University of
Bologna (Department of Visual Arts), where now she's still
teaching.
She is a member of the PhD Program in Art History, University of
Bologna (Department of Visual Arts).
Teaching
First level degree in DAMS: Artistic Literature and Semiotics of
Arts (Department of Visual Arts, University of Bologna);
Second level degree in Art History and Semiotic Disciplines: Visual
Semiotics (Department of Visual Arts and Department of
Communication Science, University of Bologna).
Research
Since her degree, her studies has focused on semiotics of visual
language (see Corrain, L., Valenti, M., eds., Leggere l'opera
d'arte, Esculapio, Bologna, 1991; Corrain, L., ed., Leggere l'opera
d'arte II, Esculapio, Bologna, 1999; Corrain, L., ed., Semiotiche
della pittura, Meltemi, Roma, 2004). Some of her publications are
about the representation of the night in the history of art (see in
particular Semiotica dell'invisibile, Esculapio, Bologna, 1996),
others are about the visual theory (Corrain, L., “Introduzione” in

From 2004 to 2006 she was partner of the research project
L'hétérogénéité du visuel. Syncrétismes, synesthésies,
moltimodalité, connotations et méta-sémiotiques (Ministère de la
Recherche Française), organized by the University of Limoges
together with the University of Louvain and Venice.
Since 2007 she has been partner of the research project Images et
dispositifs de visualization scientifique. Nouvelles images,
nouvelles pratiques (Ministère de la Recherche Française),
organized by the University of Limoges together with the University
of Louvain and Venice.
