A RESUME' OF THE CURRICULUM VITAE

 

 

 

 

MASSIMO RICOTTILLI

 

 

Born in L'Aquila, Italy, December 14, 1945.

 

 

          Current positions

 

- Full Professor of Economic Policies, Department of Economics of the University of Bologna.

- Member of Centro Interdipartimentale ‘Luigi Galvani' (CIG): the Interdepartmental Centre for

  Bio-informatics, Bio-physics and Bio-complexity, University of Bologna.

 

 

A. Degrees and Graduate Studies.

   1. March 31, 1969: ‘Laurea' with honours from the Faculty of Economics, University of Bologna. This degree was awarded upon presentation of a dissertation on the economic reforms in Eastern European countries. Empirical research work was made possible thanks to a grant of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to attend the former Warsaw Higher School of Planning and Statistics (S.G.P.i S.).

 

  2. Further studies in the field of planning and economic theory were completed during 1969 in Warsaw under the auspices of the aforementioned Ministry.

 

  3. December 1971: Master's Degree in Development Economics from the University of Naples. The degree was obtained after attending a two year course, thanks to a grant of the Italian Research Council, at the “Centro di Specializzazione e Ricerche Economico-Agrarie e di Economia dello Sviluppo”. A dissertation on dual economies was presented.

 

 

  4. 1972-1975: Graduate studies at the University of Cambridge, Faculty of Economics and Politics,    member of Clare Hall, a graduate college of the University. Financial support was obtained from the University of Naples, with the sponsorship of the Ford Foundation, and from the Italian Research Council. Research on Capital Theory and Unbalanced Growth was carried out.

 

 

B. Professional and Teaching Positions.

 

   1. 1971-1972: appointment as lecturer of Development Policies at the ‘Istituto per gli Studi di Sviluppo Economico “(ISVE) in Naples. This Institute organises courses in Development Economics and Policies for developing countries' public administrators.

 

   2. 1975-1976: research post and junior lectureship of Macroeconomics at the University of Modena, Faculty of Economics.

 

   3. 1976- 1984:  Lectureship of Economics at the University of Bologna, Faculty of Humanities.

 

   4. 1984: Tenure as Associate Professor of Economics was obtained at the University of Bologna.

 

   5. 1979 - 1980: Visiting Professor of Economics at the University of Modena.

 

   6. Autumn Term, 1983: Visiting Fulbright Scholar at Stanford University.

 

   7. Summer 1988: Visiting Scholar at WIDER (World Institute of Development Economics); Helsinki. The United Nations University.

 

   8. Autumn Term, 1990, Visiting Scholar, Brown University, Providence.

 

   9. 1986-1992: Visiting Professor of Development Economics at the Johns Hopkins University, Bologna Center, the Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies.

 

 10. 1992, Autumn Term. Visiting Scholar J. Nerhu University, New Delhi and the Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta.

 

 11. 1996-2000: Full Professor of Economic Policies, Faculty of Economics, University of Trieste.

 

 12. Summer Term 2010:  Visiting Scholar, Santa Fe Institute, Santa Fe.

 

 

 

C. Collaboration and Consultancies with International Organisations.

 

  1. 1981-1982:  while on leave from the University of Bologna, appointment as Economic Affair Officer at UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development), Geneva. Assignments concerned the analysis of Balance of Payments disequilibria, the adjustment process and inflation in developing countries.

 

  2. 1986 and 1987: consultancies were  carried out for UNICEF, New York. In particular, a study on the structural adjustment programme of the Republic of Niger was made.

 

  3. 1989-1990. A study on  foreign direct investment and capital stock measurement was made for UNCTC (United Nations Centre for Transnational Corporations), New York, as a contribution to the World Investment Directory.

 

 4.  1999-2002. Collaboration with M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai, India.

 

 

D. Extra-curricular Courses:

 

  1. 1988-89: Lectures on Economic Development delivered at the  ‘Istituto Diplomatico', Rome .

 

 2. Autumn 1988. Lectures on International Trade at the ‘Instituto Diplomatico' of Argentina, Buenos Aires.

 

 3. 1990-1999. Courses on Economic Development have been taught for candidates preparing to enter the Foreign Service.

 

  4. 1992-2001: Courses of  Macroeconomics have been taught at the Graduate Programme for Firm Solicitors in Bologna.

 

 5. 1995-1998. Senior Lecturer at the European Summer School on Structural Change and Economic

        Dynamics , Selwyn College ,Cambridge.

 

6.      1999-2011. Visiting Lecturer, the Master's Degree Programme for Co-operation and Development,  

      University of Pavia.

 

7.   2001. Visiting Lecturer, Graduate Course on Development and Project Analysis, Faculty of

      Political Sciences, University of Milan.
