Curriculum Vitae


Marco De Marinis (1949) is a full Theatre Professor at the Music and Performing Arts Department in the Literature and Philosophy Faculty at the University of Bologna (course DAMS). He lectures in the History of the Theatre as part of the three-year undergraduate programme at DAMS-Theatre; and in the Semiotics of the Theatre and the Theory and Culture of the Performance as part of the post-graduate, specialisation programme in Theatre Studies. His main field of research involves: the theory of the theatre; the methodological and epistemic notions implied in the study of the theatre; the twentieth-century theatrical experience, in particular with regard to leading directors, to corporal mime and to the post Second World War so-called ‘New Theatre'; staging and theatrical iconography. From the 1st November 2001 to the 31st October 2004, he was Head of the Music and Performing Arts Department. He currently holds the position as Head of the Centro di Promozione Teatrale La Soffitta and he is the PhD co-ordinator in Theatre and Film Studies at the Music and Performing Arts Department.

He is on the editorial board of the Journal Versus Quaderni di studi semiotici, edited by Umberto Eco for the publishing house Bompiani. He part of the academic advisory board of L'Annuaire théâtral (Montreal, Canada) and Teatro XXI, edited by Osvaldo Pellettieri (Universidad de Buenos Aries). He is a permanent member of the academic équipe at ISTA, the International School of Theatre Anthropology, run by Eugenio Barba, based in Holsterbro (Denmark). He edits the series of studies and researches on the theatre at various publishing houses and in particular for Bulzoni in Rome.
